12 chapter UPGRADING RAM MEMORY This chapter describes the steps to install a memory expansion board to increase the amount of random access memory (RAM). See the online Options Catalog for a list of the available memory expansion boards. The computer has two memory slots. One slot contains the original system memory board. You can increase RAM by adding a memory expansion board and also by replacing the original memory board. For example, you can increase RAM up to 128 megabytes by installing two 64-megabyte boards. To view the amount of existing RAM memory in the computer, double-click the Compaq Diagnostics icon in Control Panel. IMPORTANT: When RAM memory is increased, the disk space reserved for the Hibernation file is also increased. If you experience problems with Hibernation after adding a memory board, verify that your hard drive has enough free space for the Hibernation file. Double-click the Power icon in Control Panel, then click the Hibernation tab. ! WARNING: The memory compartment is the only user-accessible internal compartment on the computer. All other areas that require a tool to access should be opened only by a Compaq authorized service provider. Upgrading RAM Memory 12-1
