Hotkeys Hotkeys are key combinations on the computer keyboard for performing functions quickly. To use a hotkey, press the Fn key simultaneously with another key. Function keys used in hotkey combinations have a blue icon representing the function. Hotkey Fn+F1 Fn+F4 Fn+F5 Fn+F6 Fn+F7 Fn+F8 Fn+F10 Fn+T Fn+Esc Fn+ Suspend Function Popup window location. After pressing the hotkey, press the left, right, up, and down arrow keys to change the screen location where hotkey popup windows appear. Display. While an external monitor or overhead projector is connected, press the hotkey to switch between simultaneous display, external display, and internal computer display. System beeps. After pressing the hotkey, press an arrow key to adjust or test the volume of system beeps, including lowbattery warning beeps. The right arrow key increases the volume, the left arrow key decreases the volume, and the down arrow key tests the volume. QuickLock/QuickBlank. Press the hotkey to initiate QuickLock (disable keyboard and pointing device) and QuickBlank (blank the screen) until the power-on password is entered. (To establish a power-on password and enable QuickLock and QuickBlank, see Chapter 14, "Security Features.") Battery conservation. Press the hotkey to view or change the battery conservation level. (For more information, see Chapter 4, "Using Power and Power Management.") Battery gauge. Press the hotkey to see the charge status of battery packs in the system, including the expansion base when docked. (For more information, see Chapter 5, "Using Battery Packs.") Display brightness. Press the hotkey and then the right arrow key to increase display brightness or the left arrow key to decrease brightness. Image centering/expanding. After centering/expanding is enabled (by settings in Display Properties), press the hotkey to toggle between centering with a black border around or expanding to fill the screen. (For more information, see "Image Panning or Expanding" in Chapter 7.) BIOS. Press the hotkey, then the down arrow key to view BIOS dates for the system, video, keyboard, and expansion (when docked in a base). (The upgradable system BIOS provides basic functional instructions to the computer.) Hibernation. Press Fn simultaneously with the suspend button to manually initiate Hibernation. Hotkeys
