Solving Battery and Battery Gauge Problems Continued Problem Possible Cause Solution Battery charge does not last as long as expected. (continued) Battery pack is being exposed to temperature extremes. Battery gauge is inaccurate The battery pack is new or was not used for a long time and has not been fully charged. Keep battery pack within the recommended operating or storage temperature ranges (see operating temperature ranges in Appendix D and battery storage ranges in Chapter 5). Fully charge the battery pack until the battery light turns off. Allow the battery pack to discharge to the lowbattery warning level at least every 90 days, then fully charge. Solving Diskette and Diskette Drive Problems Problem Cannot access diskette drive Diskette drive cannot write to a diskette. Possible Cause Diskette drive is not seated properly Diskette is writeprotected. Diskette is not formatted. Not enough space is left on the diskette. Computer is trying to write to the wrong drive. The diskette drive controller or diskette write ability has been disabled. Solution Remove and then reinsert the diskette drive until it clicks into place. Disable the write-protect feature or use a diskette that is not writeprotected. Format the diskette. Use a larger diskette. Verify the drive letter. Run Computer Setup and enable the diskette drive controller or the diskette write ability under Storage. Continued Troubleshooting 17-7
