The metal crosspiece indicated by the arrow in Figure 1-3 must be OFF the work surface. Otherwise, flexing can damage the system board. Follow these steps to install each DIMM in a DIMM socket on the system board. DIMMs can be 64 MB, 128 MB or 256 MB in any combination. They can be installed in any order in any of the DIMM sockets on the system board. 1. Remove an HP DIMM from its container, handling the module by its edges. If you must set it down, place it on an antistatic mat. 2. Locate the socket where you will install the DIMM, and spread outward the two retaining clips shown in Figure 1-3. 3. Align the notches on the DIMM with the keys on the socket, and hold the DIMM at a 90° angle to the system board. 7

CAUTION
