Chapter 3 Opening and Closing the HP Server Removing the Side Cover 1. Turn off the Server and disconnect the power cord. Refer to Chapter 2, "Controls, Ports, and Indicators" for shutdown procedure. 2. If phone lines are connected to the Server, remove the phone lines. 3. Insert the key into the lock on the rear of the Server to unlock the cover. Initially, the keys are found connected to a ring located on the rear of the Server just below the locking mechanism. See Figure 3-1. Turn Key to Unlock Figure 3-1. Opening Cover Lock 4. Lift and open the latch on the side of cover, as shown in Figure 3-2. 5. Open the left side-cover, pulling the top away from the chassis, and then lift it up removing it from the chassis. See Figure 3-2. 18

Removing the Side Cover
1. Turn off the Server and disconnect the power cord.
Refer to Chapter 2, “Controls, Ports, and Indicators” for shutdown procedure.

If phone lines are connected to the Server, remove the phone lines.
3. Insert the key into the lock on the rear of the Server to unlock the cover.
Initially, the keys are found connected to a ring located on the rear of the
Server just below the locking mechanism. See Figure 3-1.

4. Lift and open the latch on the side of cover, as shown in Figure 3-2.
5. Open the left side-cover, pulling the top away from the chassis, and then lift it
up removing it from the chassis. See Figure 3-2.
