5.1.1
Scalable Systems Manager
Scalable Systems Manager is an extension of IBM Director that communicates
solely out-of-band with the service processor in supported xSeries servers, like
x455, to create and manage static hardware partitions. These static partitions
are referred to as scalable partitions throughout the Scalable Systems Manager
interface and documentation.
The console component of Scalable Systems Manager is an extension to IBM
Director that provides the following console tasks:
±
Scalable Systems Configuration
With this task you can view and manage scalable objects in a graphical user
interface. Is possible to create and delete scalable objects, add and delete
unassigned scalable nodes to and from IBM Director, insert and remove
scalable nodes to and from a scalable partition, view information about and
configure the remote I/O enclosures attached to a scalable node, and perform
other operations on scalable partitions, such as power on, shutdown, and
power off.
±
Scalable Systems Discovery
Create a manageable scalable system of the unassigned scalable and also
update it to add unassigned scalable nodes.
±
Scalable Systems Validation
This task is used when you need to validate the cabling of the scalable nodes
in a manageable scalable system.
5.2
The Remote Supervisor Adapter
The x455 is equipped with a Remote Supervisor Adapter integrated into the
system. See Figure 5-1 on page 178 for the location of the Remote Supervisor
Adapter.
Note:
The available date for the IBM Director agent 64-bit (Windows and
Linux) and SSM plug-in is first quarter 2004.
