1. Read the safety information that begins on page v and the "Installation guidelines" on page 9. 2. Turn off the server and disconnect the power cords and all external cables, if necessary; then, remove the server cover. Remove the PCI Express riser-card assembly from slot 2 on the system board. v If an adapter is installed in the riser-card assembly, disconnect any cables that are connected to the adapter. v Grasp the riser-card assembly at the rear edge and lift it from the riser-card connector. v Remove the adapter, if one is present, from the riser-card assembly. 4. Install an adapter in the PCI-X riser-card assembly. See "Installing an adapter" for more information. Set any jumpers or switches on the adapter as directed by the adapter manufacturer. 5. Insert the PCI-X riser-card assembly into the riser-card connector on the system board. Make sure that it is fully seated. If you have other options to install, do so now. Otherwise, go to "Completing the installation" on page 26. Installing an adapter The following notes describe the types of adapters that the server supports and other information that you must consider when installing an adapter: v Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow those instructions in addition to the instructions in this section. v There are two types of adapters that you can install, depending on which slots are available. You can install the following types of adapters in PCI slots 1 and 2: - Only a PCI Express adapter into slot 1 - Any PCI-X or PCI Express adapter into slot 2 To install an adapter, complete the following steps: 1. riser-card
assembly
at
the
rear
edge
and
lift
it
from
the
riser-card
connector.
v
Remove
the
adapter,
if
one
is
present,
from
the
riser-card
assembly.
4.
Install
an
adapter
in
the
PCI-X
riser-card
assembly.

“Installing
an
adapter”
for
more
information.
Set
any
jumpers
or
switches
on
the
adapter
as
directed
by
the
adapter
manufacturer.
5.
Insert
the
PCI-X
riser-card
assembly
into
the
riser-card
connector
on
the
system
board.
Make
sure
that
it
is
