POST error codes The following table provides an abbreviated list of the error codes that might appear during POST. See the IBM Problem Determination and Service Guide on the IBM System x Documentation CD for more information about the POST error codes. To check for updated technical information, complete the following steps. Note: Changes are made periodically to the IBM Web site. The actual procedure might vary slightly from what is described in this document. 1. Go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/. 2. Under Product support, click System x. 3. Under Popular links, click Publications lookup. 4. From the Product family menu, select System x3550 and click Continue. Table 6. Abbreviated list of error codes Error code Description Action 161 The real-time clock battery has failed. 1. Reseat the battery. 2. Replace the battery or call for service. 162 A device configuration has changed. 1. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program, select Load Default Settings, and save the settings. 2. Make sure that optional devices are turned on and installed correctly. 163 The time of day has not been set. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program and set the date and time. 201 Memory test error. Make sure that the DIMMs are installed correctly. 289 A failing DIMM was disabled. Make sure that the DIMMs are supported by the server and that they are installed correctly. 301, 303 Keyboard and keyboard controller Make sure that the keyboard cable is connected and that nothing is resting on the keyboard keys. 11xx Serial port configuration error. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program, select Load Default Settings, and save the settings. 0018xxx PCI device error 1. Make sure the PCI adapters and riser cards are installed correctly. 2. Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program, select Load Default Settings, and save the settings. 3. Remove the PCI adapters and riser cards, one at a time, until the problem is isolated. 00019xxx Microprocessor x is not functioning or failed Make sure that microprocessor x is installed correctly. the built-in self-test. (Trained service technician only) If the problem remains, replace microprocessor x. 01298xxx Data for microprocessor x Download and install the latest level of BIOS code.
