Replacing a System Fan (SR1630HGP) Caution: The fans are NOT hot-swappable. Before removing or replacing a fan, you must first take the server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system, turn off the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the AC power cord from the system or wall outlet. Note: You cannot replace the fans into the power supply separately. If one of the fans in the power supply fails, you must replace the power supply. If one of the blower fans fails, you can individually replace them. If a fan in the power supply fails, you must replace the power supply. Use the following steps to replace a system blower fan or the PCI cooling fan. Replacing the System Blower Fans (SR1630HGP) 1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See "Safety Information" on page iii. 2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable. 3. Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see "Removing the Server System Cover". 4. Remove the processor air duct (see letter "A" in the figure below). For instructions, see "Removing the Processor Air Duct" on page 33. 5. Remove the two screws that hold the fan in place. Save these screws. You will re- install them later. 6. Disconnect the fan cable from the server board (see letter "B" in Figure 75). Replacing a System Fan (SR1630HGP)
Caution:
The fans are NOT hot-swappable. Before removing or replacing a fan, you must first take
the server out of service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to the system, turn off
the system by pressing the power button, and unplug the AC power cord from the system
or wall outlet.
Note:
You cannot replace the fans into the power supply separately. If one of the fans in the
power supply fails, you must replace the power supply.
If one of the blower fans fails, you can individually replace them. If a fan in the power
supply fails, you must replace the power supply. Use the following steps to replace a
system blower fan or the PCI cooling fan.
Replacing the System Blower Fans (SR1630HGP)
1.

2.
Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable.
3.
Remove the server system cover. For instructions, see

4.

.
5.
Remove the two screws that hold the fan in place. Save these screws. You will re-
install them later.
6.
Disconnect the fan cable from the server board (see letter “B” in Figure 75).
