NOTE The format parameters may be set using the Mode Select Commands (15H or 55H) before executing the Format Unit Command. If this command is issued with any of these drive/media combinations, a CHECK CONDITION status will result with the Sense Key/Additional Sense Code set to Data Protect/Write Protected. FmtDta A Format Data bit of 1 indicates that the command includes a Data Out Phase consisting of a 4-byte Defect List Header.
