Chapter 2 Installing and Removing Options You can enhance the performance of your computer by adding optional equipment such as memory modules, option cards, or an Intel OverDrive processor. Memory modules-also called SIMMs (single inline memory modules)-allow you to increase the amount of memory in your computer. An option card is a circuit board you install in your computer to add a particular function, such as a modem or an additional interface port. An OverDrive processor is a CPU chip which doubles the internal processing speed of the microprocessor and includes a built-in math coprocessor. If you have the 486SX/25 or 486DX/33 system, you can install an OverDrive processor on your system board to provide this increased performance. (Alternatively, on the 4865X/25 system you can install a 487SX/25 chip to provide math coprocessor support.) Installing and Removing Options 2-1
