Cleaning procedures CAUTION Some print-quality problems can be resolved by cleaning certain printer components rather than replacing a printer part. Cleaning the image transfer belt Perform these procedures only when an unacceptable repetitive defect appears on the printed pages and the only other solution is to replace the image transfer belt. Many, but not all, repetitive defects can be removed by using the following procedures. Defects that appear as light spots in dark areas of print are more likely to be corrected by this procedure than dark spots in unprinted areas. If the procedures are performed incorrectly or without proper care, the image transfer belt can be permanently damaged. This procedure requires the following items: q a print sample that shows the repetitive defect q a clean, hard, flat surface to work on q a cloth to use to wipe your hands clean q a dry, clean, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the transfer belt Do not use water or a solvent to clean the image transfer belt. To prevent scratches on the belt, do not use any paper products, such as tissue or paper towels, to clean the belt. Make sure that you have a clean work area that is free of sharp or rough objects that might damage the belt. To avoid damaging the belt, remove any jewelry or watches you are wearing before continuing.
