toptools User Guide The Alert Log The Alert Log provides you with a quick look at the 'health' of your network and its resources. To access the Alert Log, you may either select a device from within the Device Selector or choose the option "View Alerts" or click the Alerts button within the Navigation Panel. If you launch "View Alerts" for a selected device, the Alert Log will launch filtered to show alerts for only the selected device. When clicking the Alerts button in the Navigation Panel, the following choices appear: View Alerts Displays the Alert Log within the main window. Configure Actions on Alerts Provides a utility to configure what actions toptools should take when it receives alerts from devices, such as paging or sending email. Frequent Alerts Displays the 20 devices having the most critical alerts. Drivers/Firmware Update Status View Audit Events Displays a log of driver/firmware update actions that are scheduled or have occurred for the selected device. Displays Audit Event Log within the main window. As shown in the picture below, the Alert Log provides a list of alerts including the state of the alert (new, acknowledged, closed), its severity, a description of the alert, the device that sent it, the time that toptools received the event, extended details, and any user entered notes about the alert and/or device. 38

The Alert Log
The Alert Log provides you with a quick look at the ‘health’ of your network and its resources. To access the Alert
Log, you may either select a device from within the Device Selector or choose the option “View Alerts” or click the
Alerts button within the Navigation Panel. If you launch
“View Alerts” for a selected device, the Alert Log will
launch filtered to show alerts for only the selected device.
When clicking the Alerts button in the Navigation Panel, the following choices appear:
View Alerts
Displays the Alert Log within the main window.
Configure Actions on
Alerts
Provides a utility to configure what actions toptools should take when it
