toptools User Guide To configure auditing, click the Settings button in the Navigation Panel and select Auditing. There are two options in the dialog: • Management server changes - This option logs changes to the configuration of the toptools server, such as changing the discovery schedule or polling cycles. • Managed device changes - This option logs actions taken by toptools on devices it manages. Check these boxes if you wish to enable either or both auditing functions. If you enable auditing and actively use toptools, you may wish to manage the size of the Windows Application Log. Actions on Alerts Although the toptools Alert Log provides you with an extensive list of alerts sent by managed devices as they are received, you may not be sitting in front of the Alert Log throughout the day 'waiting for something to happen'. As an alternative, you can use the Configure Actions on Alerts dialog to configure toptools to notify you when an alert is received, or to take action by launching a program. Available actions: • Send email • Send a page (via email request) • Write to the Windows Event Log of the toptools server station • Run a program on the toptools server In addition, you may use the Configure Actions on Alerts dialog to specify aging of the Alert database by deleting unacknowledged or closed alerts after a user-configured number of days. To access the Configure Actions on Alerts dialog, click the Alerts button in the Navigation Panel.
