CD drive problems Symptom Suggested action The BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842 cannot access the CD drive in the BladeCenter unit. 1. Important: If you are using a Type 8677 BladeCenter unit and you received it before June 2003, the customer interface card (CIC) in the media tray of the BladeCenter unit might need to be replaced before the CD drive will work correctly with a BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842. To determine whether the CIC in the BladeCenter unit requires replacement, follow the instructions in "Checking the status of the media tray" on page 17. 2. If the BladeCenter unit contains the correct CIC and the problem remains, determine whether other blade servers can access the CD drive. 3. If other blade servers can access the CD drive, there might be a problem with the BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842. Contact a service support representative for assistance. Note: For all other CD drive problems, see the BladeCenter unit Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide or Problem Determination and Service Guide. Power problems Power symptom The blade server does not turn on. Suggested action 1. Make sure that: a. The power-on LED on the front of the BladeCenter unit is lit. b. The LEDs on all the BladeCenter power modules are lit. c. On a BladeCenter Type 8677 or similar unit, if the blade server is in blade bays 7 through 14, power modules are in power-module bays 1, 2, 3, and 4. d. On a BladeCenter T unit, if the blade server is in blade bays 6 through 8, power modules are in power-module bays 1, 2, 3, and 4. e. The power-on LED on the blade-server control panel is flashing slowly. v If the power-on LED is flashing rapidly and continues to do so, the blade server is not communicating with the management module; reseat the blade server and go to step 3. v If the power LED is off, either the blade bay is not receiving power, the blade server is defective, or the LED information panel is loose or defective. f. Local power control for the blade server is enabled (use the BladeCenter management-module Web interface to make sure), or the blade server was instructed through the management module (Web interface) to turn on. 2. If you just installed an option in the blade server, remove it, and restart the blade server. If the blade server now turns on, troubleshoot the option (see the documentation that comes with the option for information). 3. Try another blade server in the blade bay; if it works, replace the faulty blade server. 4. If the problem remains, have the blade server serviced. 78 BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842: Installation and User's Guide
