Table 2. Light path diagnostics (continued) Lit blade-error LED Cause Temperature error The system temperature has exceeded a threshold level. Action 1. Check to see if a blower on the BladeCenter unit has failed. If it has, replace the blower. 2. Make sure the room temperature is not too high. (See "Features and specifications" on page 6 for temperature information.) IDE bus x error The IDE bus indicated by the error LED has failed. If the problem remains, have the blade server serviced. 1. Reseat or replace the hard disk drive (or other IDE device) on IDE bus x. 2. If the LED stays on, replace the system-board assembly as described in the Hardware Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide. 3. Replace the blade server cover, reinsert the blade server in the BladeCenter unit, and then restart the server. Processor x phase-locked loop (PLL) error VRM error The microprocessor circuit is defective, and cannot process the required signals. The integrated VRM on the system board has failed. If the problem remains, have the blade server serviced. Attention: To help ensure proper cooling and system reliability, two microprocessors and two heat sinks are required on the system board in the blade server at all times. The microprocessors and heat sinks on the system board are not replaceable. Therefore, if a microprocessor or heat sink becomes defective, you must replace the system-board assembly. Contact a service support representative for assistance. 1. To verify the error, replace the blade-server cover, reinsert the blade server in the BladeCenter unit, and then restart the server. 2. If the LED stays lit, replace the system-board assembly. Contact a service support representative for assistance. Chapter 7. Solving problems 83
