Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the storage product. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the storage product. 2. Prepare your storage product. See "Removing or extending the storage product from the rack cabinet" on page 43. 3. Remove the storage product cover. See "Removing the cover" on page 43. 4. Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing and reinstalling the cooling shroud" on page 46. 5. Locate the system fans. See "Storage product components" on page 19. 6. Disconnect the cable of the system fan from the system fan connector on the system board. Grasp the top of the system fan with your index finger and thumb and then lift the system fan out of the storage product. Figure 80. Removing the system fan 7. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new system fan to any unpainted surface on the outside of the storage product. To replace a system fan, do the following:
1. Remove all external media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the storage product.
Then,disconnectallpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedto
the storage product.
2. Prepare your storage product. See “Removing or extending the storage product from the rack cabinet”
on page 43.
3. Remove the storage product cover. See “Removing the cover” on page 43.
4. Remove the cooling shroud. See “Removing and reinstalling the cooling shroud” on page 46.
5. Locate the system fans. See “Storage product components” on page 19.
6. Disconnect the cable of the system fan from the system fan connector on the system board. Grasp
the top of the system fan with your index finger and thumb and then lift the system fan out of the
storage product.
