Table 2.3 Drive States (Cont.) State Hot Spare Failed Rebuild Unconfigured Bad Missing Offline Description A drive that is powered up and ready for use as a spare in case an online drive fails. A drive that was originally configured as Online or Hot Spare, but on which the firmware detects an unrecoverable error. A drive to which data is being written to restore full redundancy for a virtual drive. A drive on which the firmware detects an unrecoverable error; the drive was Unconfigured Good or the drive could not be initialized. A drive that was Online but which has been removed from its location. A drive that is part of a virtual drive but which has invalid data as far as the RAID configuration is concerned. Note: When a virtual drive with cached data goes offline, the cache for the virtual drive is discarded. Because the virtual drive is offline, the cache cannot be saved. 2.4.18 Virtual Drive States The virtual drive states are described in Table 2.4. Table 2.4 Virtual Drive States State Optimal Degraded Partial Degraded Failed Offline Description The virtual drive operating condition is good. All configured drives are online. The virtual drive operating condition is not optimal. One of the configured drives has failed or is offline. The operating condition in a RAID 6 virtual drive is not optimal. One of the configured drives has failed or is offline. RAID 6 can tolerate up to two drive failures. The virtual drive has failed. The virtual drive is not available to the RAID controller.
