Symptom Remedy The surround effect is difficult to hear • Check the "DEC. MODE" setting (page 52). when you are playing a Dolby Digital, • Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 85). DTS, or MPEG audio. • Depending on the DVD, the output signal may not be the entire 5.1 channel. It may be monaural or stereo even if the sound track is recorded in Dolby Digital or MPEG audio format. The sound comes from the center speaker only. • Check the speaker connections. • Depending on the disc, the sound may come from the center speaker only. No sound is heard from the center speaker. • Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 85). • Check the "DEC. MODE" setting (page 52). • Depending on the source, the effect of the center speaker may be less noticeable. • A 2 channel source is being played. No sound or only a very low-level sound is heard from the surround speakers. • Check the speaker connections and settings (pages 19, 85). • Check the "DEC. Operation Symptom Radio stations cannot be tuned in. The remote does not function. A disc does not play. Remedy • Check that the antenna (aerial) is connected securely. Adjust the antenna (aerial) or connect an external antenna (aerial) if necessary. • The signal strength of the stations is too weak (when tuning in with automatic tuning). Use direct tuning. • No stations have been preset or the preset stations have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset stations). Preset the stations (page 56). • Press DISPLAY so that the frequency appears in the front panel display. • There are obstacles between the remote and the control unit. • The distance between the remote and the control unit is too far. • The remote is not pointed at the remote sensor on the control unit. • The batteries in the remote are weak. • There is no disc inserted. • The disc is upside down. Insert the disc with the playback side facing down. • The system cannot play CD-ROMs, etc. (page 7). • The region code on the DVD does not match the system. • Moisture has condensed inside the control unit and may cause damage to the lenses.
