4903RA128 TG 1 : Remove the pawls (1). Installing 1 - Take three full turns of the rope off the rope rotor. 1 - Pull out the rope with the starter grip and slowly release the rope rotor. 4903RA126 TG 4903RA123 TG - Remove the starter rope or remaining rope from the rotor, b 8.5 The spring clip's guide loops must be in line with the pawls (arrows). - Remove the spring clip and pawls, b 8.3 Check operation. - Pull the starter rope, the rotor turns and the pegs on the pawls move in the direction of spring 1 loops - the pawls move outwards. 2 1 - Reassemble all other parts in the reverse sequence. 4903RA124 TG - Fit the new pawls in the bores (arrows) and lubricate the pegs (1), b 14 8.4 Rope Rotor 1 : Remove the washer (1). Rewind spring must be relaxed. : Carefully remove the rope rotor 2 (2). - Coat bore in rope rotor with STIHL special lubricant, b 14 4903RA127 TG 1 4903RA125 TG Relieving tension of rewind spring : Position the spring clip (1) so that its loops engage the pegs on the pawls. The rounded part of the spring clip (short arrow) must engage the starter post's groove. The system will not be under tension if either the starter rope or rewind spring is broken. - Remove the fan housing and the segment, b 8.2 : Push the straight part of the spring clip over the starter post until it snaps into the groove. : Pull out the starter rope (1) about 5 cm and hold the rope rotor (2) steady. 52 MS 311, MS 391

Installing
Fit the new pawls in the bores
(arrows) and lubricate the
pegs (1),

Position the spring clip (1) so that
its loops engage the pegs on the
pawls. The rounded part of the
spring clip (short arrow) must
engage the starter post’s groove.

Push the straight part of the
spring clip over the starter post
until it snaps into the groove.

The spring clip's guide loops must
be in line with the pawls (arrows).
Check operation.
Pull the starter rope, the rotor
turns and the pegs on the pawls
move in the direction of spring
loops – the pawls move
outwards.
Reassemble all other parts in the
reverse sequence.

Rope Rotor
Relieving tension of rewind
spring
The system will not be under
tension if either the starter rope or
rewind spring is broken.
Remove the fan housing and the
segment,

Pull out the starter rope (1)
about 5 cm and hold the rope
rotor (2) steady.
