Changing or Deleting a Password After establishing a power-on password or setup password, you can change or delete that password only in the password prompt window. To change the password, type the old password once and the new password twice, separated by the password delimiter for your keyboard, for example old password/newpassword/newpassword NOTE: To delete your password, do not type a new password after the password delimiter. The character used for the password delimiter varies according to the language of the keyboard. The following table lists the password delimiter to use for each country keyboard: Password Delimiters Country Keyboard Symbol Belgian = Danish, German, Italian, Latin American, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish/Finnish, Swiss, Taiwanese - (hyphen) French ! On the Japanese keyboard, the password delimiter is the second key to the left of the right Shift key. Disabling Devices Disabling devices in Computer Setup prevents unauthorized use of those devices. Turn on or restart the computer, press F10 when the cursor appears near the upper-right corner of the screen, then select Computer Setup. s To disable the diskette drive controller or the diskette drive write ability, click StorageÆResources or ÆProperties. s To disable the diskette drive boot ability, click System FeaturesÆBoot ManagementÆProperties. s To disable the serial port, infrared port, or parallel port, click CommunicationsÆ[port]ÆResources.
