Inserting a Battery Pack To insert a battery pack into the battery bay: 1. With the label on the battery pack facing up and the battery contacts facing in, insert the battery pack into the battery bay until it clicks into place. 2. Turn on the computer or, if the computer is in Suspend, press the suspend button to return your information to the screen. Extending Battery Pack Operating Time The operating time of battery packs can vary depending on the options and applications used and the conservation settings selected. To get the maximum operating time from battery packs, follow these guidelines: s Select the High battery conservation level (see Chapter 4, "Using Power and Power Management"). s Initiate Suspend or Hibernation or turn off the computer when you will not be using it for several hours. s Reduce the brightness of the display and select a shorter screen save timeout. s Exit modem programs when not in use. s Remove PC Cards when not in use. s Disconnect external equipment not in use that does not have its own power source. s Use an external power source when available. s If the computer will be disconnected from external power for more than two weeks, remove the battery pack to reduce the discharge. To insert a battery pack into the battery bay:
1. With the label on the battery pack facing up and the battery
contacts facing in, insert the battery pack into the battery bay
until it clicks into place.
