5 chapter USING BATTERY PACKS This chapter contains guidelines for using and storing battery packs, ensuring battery gauge accuracy, and extending battery pack operating time. For used battery recycling requirements, see "Battery Notice" in Appendix B. ! WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury or damage to the battery pack, do not crush, puncture, or incinerate the battery pack or short the metal contacts. Do not attempt to open or service the battery pack. Battery Gauges Ensuring Battery Gauge Accuracy The computer uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack with a built-in battery gauge. Follow these guidelines to ensure battery gauge accuracy: s Allow new battery packs and battery packs that have been unused for two weeks or more to fully charge before you disconnect the external power source. s Allow a battery pack to fully charge as often as practicable before removing the external power source. s Allow a battery pack to discharge to the low-battery warning level as often as practicable-at least every 90 days. Battery Gauges
Ensuring Battery Gauge Accuracy
The computer uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery pack with a
built-in battery gauge. Follow these guidelines to ensure battery
gauge accuracy:
Allow new battery packs and battery packs that have been
unused for two weeks or more to fully charge before you
disconnect the external power source.
Allow a battery pack to fully charge as often as practicable
before removing the external power source.
Allow a battery pack to discharge to the low-battery warning
level as often as practicable—at least every 90 days.
