Removing/Inserting a Hard Drive in the Hard Drive Bay Removing a Hard Drive from the Hard Drive Bay The original hard drive in the computer hard drive bay has the software and drivers necessary for the computer to start (boot) and operate properly. The computer must start from a bootable drive. Before removing a hard drive, Compaq recommends that you back up all information on the hard drive. IMPORTANT: Before handling a removable drive, read the cautions under "Caring for Removable Drives" earlier in this chapter. To remove a hard drive from the hard drive bay: 1. Save your work and shut down the computer. 2. Close the display and turn the computer upside down. 3. Remove the hard drive security plate from the bottom of the computer. Then turn the computer right side up. NOTE: Use a Torx T-8 screwdriver to remove the factoryinstalled security plate. Removing a Hard Drive from the Hard Drive Bay
The original hard drive in the computer hard drive bay has the
software and drivers necessary for the computer to start (boot) and
operate properly. The computer must start from a bootable drive.
Before removing a hard drive, Compaq recommends that you back
up all information on the hard drive.
IMPORTANT:
Before handling a removable drive, read the cautions
under “Caring for Removable Drives” earlier in this chapter.
To remove a hard drive from the hard drive bay:
1. Save your work and shut down the computer.
2. Close the display and turn the computer upside down.
3. Remove the hard drive security plate from the bottom of the
computer. Then turn the computer right side up.
NOTE:
Use a Torx T-8 screwdriver to remove the factory-
installed security plate. If the tamper-resistant security plate
has been installed, use the screwdriver supplied with the
computer to remove it.
