3 Remove the ink cartridge that requires replacement by grasping it between your thumb and forefinger and pulling it firmly toward you. 4 Remove the new ink cartridge from its package. 5 Insert the cartridge into its own color-coded slot. Press down firmly on the cartridge to ensure proper contact. 6 Close the ink cartridge cover. Maintaining the printheads CAUTION If printed characters are incomplete, or dots or lines are missing from printouts, this may be caused by clogged ink nozzles and you might need to clean the printheads. To find out which printheads work with your printer, see Supplies. When the quality of printouts deteriorates, complete the following: z Check the health of the printheads. z Initiate the automatic printhead cleaning process. z Manually clean the printhead contacts. z Replace the printheads, if the problems persist after cleaning. HP is not responsible for damage to the printer that results from modifying the printheads.
