Diagnostics The NETGEAR ProSafe Firewall contains several tools to assist in diagnosing conditions on your network. From the Main Menu of the browser interface, under Maintenance, select Diagnostics to view the Diagnostics screen, shown in Figure 8-7: Figure 8-7. Diagnostics menu Ping an IP Address This function sends an echo request packet to the designated device and displays the response. Enter the IP address of the device and click the Ping button. A window will open to display the results. Perform a DNS Lookup This function will contact your Domain Name Service (DNS) server to request the IP address that corresponds to the Internet name you have entered. Enter a fully qualified domain name, such as www.netgear.com, then click the Lookup button. The resulting IP address will be shown below the Lookup button. The IP addresses of your DNS servers also appear in this section. 8-8 Maintenance

Diagnostics
The NETGEAR ProSafe Firewall contains several tools to assist in diagnosing conditions on your
network. From the Main Menu of the browser interface, under Maintenance, select Diagnostics to
view the Diagnostics screen, shown in
Figure 8-7

Ping an IP Address
This function sends an echo request packet to the designated device and displays the response.
Enter the IP address of the device and click the Ping button. A window will open to display the
results.
Perform a DNS Lookup
This function will contact your Domain Name Service (DNS) server to request the IP address that
corresponds to the Internet name you have entered. Enter a fully qualified domain name, such as
www.netgear.com, then click the Lookup button. The resulting IP address will be shown below the
Lookup button. The IP addresses of your DNS servers also appear in this section.
