Use this option to choose how the camera meters exposure. Option G Matrix (default setting) q Center-weighted Description The camera uses a wide area of the screen for metering. This metering mode provides the appropriate exposure for a variety of shooting conditions. Recommended for typical shooting. The camera meters the entire frame but assigns greatest weight to the subject at the center of the frame. The classic metering for portraits; it preserves background details while letting lighting conditions at the center of the frame determine exposure. Can be used with focus lock (A86) to meter off-center subjects. r Spot The camera meters the area shown by the circle in the center of the frame. This can be used when the subject metering target is lighter or darker than the background. Ensure that the subject is within the area shown by the circle when shooting. Can be used with focus lock (A86) to meter off-center subjects. Reference Section B Notes on Metering • When the digital zoom is in effect, Metering is set to Center-weighted or Spot. • This feature may not be used in combination with certain features.
