Shooting Features Features That Can Be Set Using the Multi Selector Available Focus Modes A Autofocus The camera automatically adjusts the focus according to the distance to the subject. Use when the distance from the subject to the lens is 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.) or more, or 1.5 m (5 ft) or more at the maximum telephoto zoom position. D Macro close-up Use for close-ups of flowers or small objects. How close you can be to the subject while shooting depends on the zoom position. When the zoom position is set to a position where F and the zoom indicator light in green, the camera can focus on subjects as close as 10 cm (4 in.). At the wide-angle zoom position from G, the camera can focus on subjects as close as 1 cm (0.4 in.) from the lens. B Infinity Use when shooting distant scenes through window glass or when shooting landscapes. The camera automatically adjusts the focus near infinity. • The camera may not be able to focus on nearby objects. • The flash mode is set to W (off). E Manual focus The focus can be adjusted for any subject that is a distance of 1 cm (0.4 in.) to infinity from the lens (E2). The closest distance at which the camera can focus varies depending on the zoom position. • This function can be used when the shooting mode is j, k, l, m, M, special effects mode or scene mode Sports. B Note on Shooting with the Flash When shooting with D (macro close-up) or E (manual focus), the flash may be unable to light the entire subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.). C Focus Mode Setting • The setting varies with the shooting mode. See "Available Functions" (A65) and "List of the Default Settings" (A75) for more information. • This feature may not be used in combination with certain features. See "Features That Cannot Be Used Simultaneously" (A80) for more information. • For shooting modes j, k, l and m, the changed focus mode setting is saved in the camera's memory even after the camera is turned off. C Macro Close-up When using j, k, l, m or M mode if Autofocus mode in the shooting menu (A60) is set to Fulltime AF, the camera will adjust focus even if the shutter-release button is not pressed halfway. When using other shooting modes, Full-time AF is turned on automatically when macro close-up is turned on. You may hear the sound of the camera focusing. 73
