Configuring the BIOS The Power Menu The Power menu of the Setup program allows you to manually enable and adjust certain power saving features of the Notebook PC, which are necessary for systems without APM or ACPI. For Windows 98 with APM or ACPI, all power saving controls (except "Suspend Mode") are made through the operating system. Enabling these features will extend the life of the battery pack between charges. To make changes to power management settings, select Power Savings from the menu bar. The following menu appears: Power Savings: Suspend Mode: [Disabled] [Save To RAM] Standby Timeout: [Off] Auto Suspend Timeout: [Off] Hard Disk Timeout: Video Timeout: [Disabled] [Disabled] Beep On Battery Low: [Enabled] Start Battery Refreshing Item Specific Help Maximum Power Savings conserves the greatest amount of system power. Maximum Performance conserves power but allows greatest system performance. To alter these settings, choose Customized. To turn off power management, choose Disabled. Power Savings: [Disabled] This option must be enabled to use any of the automatic power saving features. The configuration options are: [Disabled] [Customized] [Maximum Power Savings] [Maximum Performance] If this menu item is set to Disabled, power management features will not function regardless of other field settings on this menu. The Customized option allows you to make your own selections in the Power menu. When set to Maximum Power Savings, system power will be conserved to its greatest amount. The next four fields will then be set to predefined values that ensure maximum power savings. When this field is set to Maximum Performance, best system performance is achieved with some power conservation. The Power Menu
