3 To access a server from the list of servers, click the button that represents the server you would like to view. If you are already connected to another server, first disconnect from that server by clicking Detach at the bottom of the display. 4 Click the Attach button at the bottom of the display. When the system has successfully made the selection, the Launch Media Application button will become active. 5 Select Launch Media Application. The virtual media dialog box will appear. NOTE: A valid media should be present in the floppy or CD/DVD drive before the respective virtual media device can be connected. 6 In the Floppy Drive box or the CD/DVD Drive box, select the virtual media that you want to connect to the virtual media device. 7 Click Browse and select the appropriate drive. 8 Click Connect. Viewing the Connected Device Status The Virtual Media panel lists the generic mass storage and CD/DVD devices that are currently connected. For each connected device, the target drive, where the target drive is connected and the number of bytes read (for that device) are displayed. Operating the Device Remotely Once the device has been connected, operate it remotely through the video viewer by selecting the Console option from the DRAC/MC menu. See "Using the Video Viewer." Booting to Virtual Media To boot to a Virtual Media device such as a CD/DVD device, you may need to change the Boot Sequence option using the System Setup program. See "Using the System Setup Program" in your Hardware Owner's Manual for information on changing the boot order. Installing Operating Systems Using Virtual Media 1 Ensure that the operating system installation CD is inserted in the management station's CD drive. 2 Ensure that you have selected your local CD drive and that you have connected to the virtual drives. 3 Follow the steps for booting from the virtual media in the preceding section to ensure that the BIOS is set to boot from the CD drive that you are installing from. 4 Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. 46 Configuring the KVM Switch Module
