Glidepath Mode (GP) (WAAS Only), Selecting Glidepath Mode

Page 276 highlights

Overview System Instruments Flight EIS CNS Interface GPS Navigation Flight Planning Integrated Autopilot GLIDEPATH MODE (GP) (WAAS ONLY) NOTE: Press the CWS Button (if equipped) while Glidepath Mode is active does not cancel the mode. The Integrated Autopilot guides the aircraft back to the glidepath upon release of the CWS Button. NOTE: The integrated autopilot will not capture a glidepath or glideslope from above. Glidepath Mode is available only in installations with an external GPS navigation source (i.e., GTN or GNS Series) configured. Glidepath Mode is used to track the WAAS-based glidepath only. When Glidepath Mode is armed, 'GP' is annunciated in white in the G3X Autopilot Status Box. Selecting Glidepath Mode: 1) Ensure a GPS approach with vertical guidance (LPV, LNAV/VNAV, LNAV+V) is loaded into the active flight plan. 2) Ensure that GPS is the selected navigation source (use the CDI SRC Softkey to cycle through external navigation sources if necessary). 3) Press the ALT/PTCH Softkey to access the autopilot pitch modes and press the AP APPR Softkey (only available when an external GPS navigation source (i.e., GTN or GNS Series) is configured). NOTE: Some RNAV (GPS) approaches provide a vertical descent angle as an aid in flying a stabilized approach. These approaches are NOT considered Approaches with Vertical Guidance (APV). Approaches that are annunciated on the HSI as LNAV or LNAV+V are considered Nonprecision Approaches (NPA) and are flown to an MDA even though vertical glidepath (GP) information may be provided. WARNING: When flying an LNAV approach (with vertical descent angle) with the Integrated Autopilot coupled, the aircraft will not level off at the MDA even if the MDA is set in the altitude preselect. The baro minimums feature can still be used as a reminder to check altitude when approaching the MDA. When Glidepath Mode is armed or activated, GPS Mode is also armed/activated. GLIDEPATH MODE (GP) (WAAS ONLY)
NOTE:
Press the CWS Button (if equipped) while Glidepath Mode is active does
not cancel the mode.
The Integrated Autopilot guides the aircraft back to the
glidepath upon release of the CWS Button.
NOTE:
The integrated autopilot will not capture a glidepath or glideslope from
above.
Glidepath Mode is available only in installations with an external GPS navigation
source (i.e., GTN or GNS Series) configured.
Glidepath Mode is used to track the
WAAS-based glidepath only.
When Glidepath Mode is armed, ‘GP’ is annunciated in
white in the G3X Autopilot Status Box.
Selecting Glidepath Mode:
1)
Ensure a GPS approach with vertical guidance (LPV, LNAV/VNAV, LNAV+V)
is loaded into the active flight plan.
2)
Ensure that GPS is the selected navigation source (use the
CDI SRC
Softkey
to cycle through external navigation sources if necessary).
3)
Press the
ALT/PTCH
Softkey to access the autopilot pitch modes and press
the
AP APPR
Softkey (only available when an external GPS navigation
source (i.e., GTN or GNS Series) is configured).
NOTE:
Some RNAV (GPS) approaches provide a vertical descent angle as an aid
in flying a stabilized approach.
These approaches are NOT considered Approaches
with Vertical Guidance (APV).
Approaches that are annunciated on the HSI as
LNAV or LNAV+V are considered Nonprecision Approaches (NPA) and are flown to
an MDA even though vertical glidepath (GP) information may be provided.
WARNING:
When flying an LNAV approach (with vertical descent angle) with
the Integrated Autopilot coupled, the aircraft will not level off at the MDA
even if the MDA is set in the altitude preselect.
The baro minimums feature
can still be used as a reminder to check altitude when approaching the MDA.
When Glidepath Mode is armed or activated, GPS Mode is also armed/activated.
