1 Introduction Overview This manual describes how to install, set up, and use the FCArray Assistant Client/Server software on HP NetServers using Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server operating systems. The FCArray Assistant software is delivered on the CD-ROM accompanying the hardware. - HP LH4r | HP NetServer FCArray Assistant - Installation and User Guide - Page 8
Assistant Server is sufficient for these tasks. The FCArray Assistant Client software, an additional component available from Hewlett-Packard, accesses this information and then organizes it through an intuitive graphical display. The FCArray Assistant Server executes the maintenance instructions specified by the FCArray Assistant Client. Server Software • An HP NetServer running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server • Latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 service pack (3.0 or greater) • Appropriate network drivers 3-½ inch floppy disk drive and/or a CD-ROM drive for installing the FCArray Assistant Client software • Fixed hard disk with at least - HP LH4r | HP NetServer FCArray Assistant - Installation and User Guide - Page 11
Client Software • Appropriate network drivers for the installed network interface card • An installed and functioning FCArray Assistant Server software component on at least one server on the network, under Windows NT 4.0, is required to install the FCArray Assistant Client software component - HP LH4r | HP NetServer FCArray Assistant - Installation and User Guide - Page 12

Installation Use this procedure to install the FCArray Assistant software on both the managed Server and the remote Client management workstation. 1. Insert the FCArray Assistant Installation Diskette #1 in drive A: 2. Select Start from the menu, followed by Run at the Desktop. FCArray Assistant Server software installation is complete, the DACEVENT command must be modified to include the IP addresses or names of all the client systems used with this server. 2 FCArray Assistant Software installation Server Software Installation Verification In Case of Problems Problem: The message "Error in connecting selected server" is displayed or an error is encountered when trying to connect to a server. FCArray Assistant Client software successfully, a complete installation of the FCArray Assistant Server software is required on at least one HP NetServer in your TCP NT's FCArray Assistant Server loads the FCArray Assistant Server software as a "service." Viewer Each line in the Log Information Viewer identifies a single event (error, status, warning, etc.) that was noted during monitoring by a file server running FCArray Assistant Server and was transmitted by that server to this client workstation. This feature provides a means of keeping up-to-date information on the condition and charge of the Battery Backup Unit. Exit NOTE HP recommends leaving the FCArray Assistant Client running in the background as long as there are servers to monitor Server and you will not be informed of errors or status unless you restart FCArray Assistant Client and reconnect to the server(s). NOTE If this is the initial configuration of the Rack Storage/12FC, HP recommends signing onto the managed server and then reconditioning the BBU (battery pack) immediately after setting up FCArray Assistant. system privileges if signed on. A User signs on to a specific server with a specific username and a password that has been assigned by the Administrator of that server. A User can alter parameters of anything that is not controller or drive related. from the Global Status View window and are not already signed on. See Figures 4-1 and 4-2. To sign onto the server, perform the following actions: 1. Server Groups and Server Set Up Adding a Server Group to the Server Group List Clicking on the Define Server Groups, under the Administration menu, opens the Define Server Groups dialog as shown in Figures 4-3 and 4-4: Figure 4-3. Chapter 4 Configuration Alarm Setup The upper window of the Alarm Setup dialog box lists the types of alarms that can be used (Pager, Fax, E-mail, and Launch Application). In the Pager setup box: ◊ Enable or disable this Pager entry using the Enabled check box. ◊ Enter the Modem Setup String, or keep the default. ◊ Enter a Pager Prefix, or keep the default. Chapter 4 Configuration Communication Settings The communication settings affect the E-mail, Debug and any other features in FCArray Assistant using the modem port. Alarm selections are based on the settings in Alert Preferences. To override these defaults and change the alarms for this event, check or uncheck the specific boxes. A rate of 50 devotes the maximum allowable resources to a drive rebuild or array expansion, allowing the Rebuild or Expand to proceed at its fastest pace. - During error handling, this turns on Force Unit Access for reads and writes. • Enable Operational Fault Management - Allows the controller to take autonomous actions when a failure occurs. Therefore, setting the field's value near or above the Maximum Power level will result in a continuous alarm condition.
