Creating an Analysis String

Page 117 highlights

Chapter 5 Monitoring You build an analysis string, which defines a line of data on a line graph, a section of a pie graph, or a bar on a bar graph. Each string consists of one or more controllers, channels, and physical devices or logical drives to include in the analysis, an operation to be analyzed, and a color and line style (for line graphs) to represent this string graphically. NOTE The lower window in each Statistics View tab (Settings, Line, Pie, and Bar) is the display window where the defined analysis strings are listed. If the display window is blank, no active defined analysis strings currently exist. When new strings are created, each one appears in the display window. Creating an Analysis String To build an analysis string, refer to the following procedure (see Figure 5-15). 1. In Device type, select Physical devices or Logical drives to build an analysis string. 2. In Device Selection group, under Controllers, select one or more controllers to include in the analysis string. ◊ Click All for all controllers. ◊ For individual controllers, ensure All is not highlighted. 3. Under Channel, select one or more channels to include in the analysis string. ◊ Click All for all channels. ◊ For individual channels, ensure All is not highlighted. 4. If you chose Physical under Device type, select one or more targets to include in the analysis string. ◊ Click All for all targets. ◊ For individual targets, ensure All is not highlighted. 5. If you chose Logical under Device type, select one or more logical drives to include in the analysis string. ◊ Click All for all logical drives. ◊ For individual logical drives, ensure All is not highlighted. At the bottom of the Device Selection box, a field displays the analysis string being constructed. The symbol * refers to All. 111

Chapter 5
Monitoring
111
You build an analysis string, which defines a line of data on a line graph, a section
of a pie graph, or a bar on a bar graph. Each string consists of one or more
controllers, channels, and physical devices or logical drives to include in the
analysis, an operation to be analyzed, and a color and line style (for line graphs) to
represent this string graphically.
NOTE
The lower window in each Statistics View tab (Settings, Line,
Pie, and Bar) is the display window where the defined analysis
strings are listed. If the display window is blank, no active
defined analysis strings currently exist. When new strings are
created, each one appears in the display window.
Creating an Analysis String
To build an analysis string, refer to the following procedure (see Figure 5-15).
1.
In Device type, select
Physical
devices or
Logical
drives to build an
analysis string.
2.
In Device Selection group, under Controllers, select one or more
controllers to include in the analysis string.
Click
All
for all controllers.
For individual controllers, ensure
All
is not highlighted.
3.
Under Channel, select one or more channels to include in the analysis
string.
Click
All
for all channels.
For individual channels, ensure
All
is not highlighted.
4.
If you chose Physical under Device type, select one or more targets to
include in the analysis string.
Click
All
for all targets.
For individual targets, ensure
All
is not highlighted.
5.
If you chose Logical under Device type, select one or more logical drives
to include in the analysis string.
Click
All
for all logical drives.
For individual logical drives, ensure
All
is not highlighted.
At the bottom of the Device Selection box, a field displays the analysis
string being constructed. The symbol * refers to All.
