Chapter 3 Configure Mass Storage Non-RAID configuration of the SCSI B channel DOES support tape drives. NOTE Non-hot-swap SCSI devices have a dedicated connector on the SCSI B Channel. This connection isolates the non-hot-swap devices from the secondary hot-swap mass storage cage to allow the hot-swap drives to operate as Ultra2 SCSI. For non-RAID configuration, do the following: • Back up all data on the NetServer. • Verify non-RAID control of the SCSI B channel and boot order by running the Setup utility, as described in "Run Setup Utility" below. • Verify the display, operation, and boot order of the non-RAID SCSI channels, as described in "Run Symbios Configuration Utility" below. • Verify the secondary hot-swap mass storage cage installation and the disk drive module installation, as described in "Verify Disk Drive Modules" below. Back Up Data Before you change the configuration of your mass storage, back up all data on the HP NetServer and any external enclosures connected to it. Run Setup Utility Use the Setup utility to verify non-RAID control of the SCSI B Channel and to verify the boot device priority and the priority of various hard disk drive controllers within the boot device priority. If SCSI channels A and B are both non-RAID, use the Symbios Configuration Utility to set the channel to be searched first for a bootable drive, as described in "Run Symbios Configuration Utility" in this chapter. Start Setup Utility 1. Turn on power to the HP NetServer and display monitor. If you receive an error message during the boot process, refer to "Troubleshooting" in the HP NetServer LH 3/LH 3r User Guide, the HP NetServer LH 4/LH 4r User Guide, or the online help. Some power-up (boot) messages are routine. 46

Chapter 3
Configure Mass Storage
46
Non-RAID configuration of the SCSI B channel DOES support tape drives.
NOTE
Non-hot-swap SCSI devices have a dedicated connector on the
SCSI B Channel. This connection isolates the non-hot-swap
devices from the secondary hot-swap mass storage cage to
allow the hot-swap drives to operate as Ultra2 SCSI.
For non-RAID configuration, do the following:
Back up all data on the NetServer.
Verify non-RAID control of the SCSI B channel and boot order by running
the Setup utility, as described in "Run Setup Utility" below.
Verify the display, operation, and boot order of the non-RAID SCSI
channels, as described in "Run Symbios Configuration Utility" below.
Verify the secondary hot-swap mass storage cage installation and the disk
drive module installation, as described in "Verify Disk Drive Modules"
below.
Back Up Data
Before you change the configuration of your mass storage, back up all data on the
HP NetServer and any external enclosures connected to it.
Run Setup Utility
Use the Setup utility to verify non-RAID control of the SCSI B Channel and to
verify the boot device priority and the priority of various hard disk drive
controllers within the boot device priority.
If SCSI channels A and B are both non-RAID, use the Symbios Configuration
Utility to set the channel to be searched first for a bootable drive, as described in
"Run Symbios Configuration Utility" in this chapter.
Start Setup Utility
1.
Turn on power to the HP NetServer and display monitor.
If you receive an error message during the boot process, refer to
"Troubleshooting" in the
HP NetServer LH 3/LH 3r User Guide
, the
HP NetServer LH 4/LH 4r User Guide
, or the online help. Some power-up
(boot) messages are routine.
