IV. SOME BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PHOTOGRAPHY 1)EFFECTSOF APERTUREAND SHUTTERSPEED A correct exposure is achieved by a combination of shutter speed and aperture setting according to the brightness of the subject. Actually, there are many correct combinations of shutter speed and aperture for a particular subject brightness. Different shutter speed and aperture settings produce different effects. Effect of Shutter Speed The shutter speed determines the film exposure time, or the amount of light striking the film. The slower the shutter speed, the longer the shutter stays open. If the subject is moving, its image will be blurred at a slow speed. Conversely, choosing a high shutter speed allows a stationary image to be taken of a moving subject. If the subject is not moving, a high shutter speed prevents camera shake. 10
