Learning the Basics Setting up for communications 83 Setting up for communications To communicate across the telephone lines with another computer, you need: ❖ The computer's modem ❖ A telephone line ❖ An Internet Service Provider (ISP) To connect to the Internet, you need a Web browser, such as Microsoft® Internet Explorer. To stay current on the most recent software and hardware options for your computer, and for other product information, be sure to regularly check the Toshiba Web site at pcsupport.toshiba.com. Connecting the modem to a phone line Your computer comes with a built-in modem. To use the modem, you must connect it to a standard voice-grade RJ-11 telephone line.
