Chapter 8 Basic Setting The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 18 Remote CPE Configuration LABEL Wan Entry Index Delete Active Firewall IGMP Nat MER PPPoE Vlan Tagging Wan Protocol Default gateway Add/Apply Classification Index Delete Active 802.1P 802.1Q Gateway DESCRIPTION Use this section to configure the CPE's WAN connection settings. Specify a WAN connection (1~4) on the CPE device. Click an index number link to display the WAN connection settings on the connected CPE. Select this to delete the specified WAN connection. Select Enable to activate the specified WAN connection or select Disable to deactivate it. Select Enable to activate Firewall on the CPE device or select Disable to deactivate it. Select Enable to activate IGMP on the CPE device or select Disable to deactivate it. Select Enable to activate NAT on the CPE device or select Disable to deactivate it. The MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER) is an encapsulation protocol that formats IP packets so that they can be understood in a bridge network. For instance, it encapsulates routed Ethernet frames into bridged Ethernet cells. MER requires that you specify a gateway IP address. You can get this information from your ISP. DHCP: Select Enable to set the WAN connection as a DHCP client and obtain an IP address automatically from the gateway. Select Disable to turn it off. IP: Fill in the default gateway IP address used in MER mode. Mask: Fill in the subnet mask for the gateway. Fill in the Password and UserName for the PPPoE authentication. Select Auto Vlan if you want the CPE device to automatically assign traffic a VLAN ID number and priority level based on its QoS Classification settings. Select Disable if you do NOT want to configure this setting for the CPE device. Clear this to have the Switch send this setting changes to the CPE after you click Apply. Select vlanmux if you want the CPE device to allow multiplexing of multiple protocols over a single ATM virtual circuit. Enter a VLAN ID (1~4094) in the Vid field and 802.1p priority (0~7, 7 is the highest) if you want the CPE device to add to traffic going through the specified WAN connection. Fill in a number (1:PPPoE, 2:MER, 3:Bridge) to specify the protocol this WAN connection uses. Select Enable to use the WAN interface as the system default gateway and forward traffic through it. Click this to add a new WAN connection or apply the changes for an existing WAN connection on the Switch. Use this section to configure settings to classify packets into different groups according to some criteria on the CPE device. Enter a index number (1~8) to specify a classification rule. Click an index number link to display the classifier settings on the connected CPE. Select this to delete the specified classification rule. Select Enable to activate the specified WAN connection or select Disable to disable it. Enter a priority level (0~7) with which the CPE replaces the IEEE 802.1 priority field in the packets. Enter a VLAN ID number (0~4095) with which the CPE replaces the VLAN ID of the frames. This field is not available when you set the WAN connection, bridge, in the Wan Protocol field above. Enter the IP address of the gateway that helps forward the matched traffic. 92 VES1724-56 User's Guide

MER
The MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER) is an encapsulation protocol that formats IP packets so
that they can be understood in a bridge network. For instance, it encapsulates routed
Ethernet frames into bridged Ethernet cells. MER requires that you specify a gateway IP
address. You can get this information from your ISP.
DHCP
: Select
Enable
to set the WAN connection as a DHCP client and obtain an IP address
automatically from the gateway. Select
Disable
to turn it off.
IP
: Fill in the default gateway IP address used in MER mode.
Mask
: Fill in the subnet mask for the gateway.
PPPoE
Fill in the
Password
and
UserName
for the PPPoE authentication.
Vlan
Tagging
Select
Auto Vlan
if you want the CPE device to automatically assign traffic a VLAN ID number
and priority level based on its QoS Classification settings.
Select
Disable
if you do NOT want to configure this setting for the CPE device. Clear this to
have the Switch send this setting changes to the CPE after you click
Apply
.
Select
vlanmux
if you want the CPE device to allow multiplexing of multiple protocols over a
single ATM virtual circuit.
Enter a VLAN ID (1~4094) in the
Vid
field and
802.1p
priority (0~7, 7 is the highest) if you
want the CPE device to add to traffic going through the specified WAN connection.
Wan
Protocol
Fill in a number (
1:PPPoE
,
2:MER
,
3:Bridge
) to specify the protocol this WAN connection
uses.
Default
gateway
Select
Enable
to use the WAN interface as the system default gateway and forward traffic
through it.
Add/Apply
Click this to add a new WAN connection or apply the changes for an existing WAN connection
on the Switch.
Classification
Use this section to configure settings to classify packets into different groups according to
some criteria on the CPE device.
Index
Enter a index number (1~8) to specify a classification rule. Click an index number link to
display the classifier settings on the connected CPE.
Delete
Select this to delete the specified classification rule.
Active
Select
Enable
to activate the specified WAN connection or select
Disable
to disable it.
802.1P
Enter a priority level (0~7) with which the CPE replaces the IEEE 802.1 priority field in the
packets.
802.1Q
Enter a VLAN ID number (0~4095) with which the CPE replaces the VLAN ID of the frames.
Gateway
This field is not available when you set the WAN connection, bridge, in the
Wan Protocol
field above.
Enter the IP address of the gateway that helps forward the matched traffic.
