Abbreviated Phrases (WP Application) Increasing Your Typing Speed CODE r- rrA The abbreviated phrase function helps you increase your typing speed when you have to type long strings of words ("phrases") frequently. You can store the phrases in the abbreviated phrase memory, along with a short abbreviation (the "name" of the phrase). For instance, you can store the phrase "United States of America" together with the name "USA." Once this has been done, all you have to do to enter "United States of America" in your document is to type "USA" and press CODE + A (ABBR). "USA" is replaced with "United States of America." if you type a name that does not exist in the abbreviated phrase memory, and press CODE + A (ABBR), you hear a beep. The abbreviated phrase memory stores a maximum of 30 phrases and names. Each phrase can consist of up to 67 characters, while a name is limited to 8 characters. The total amount of data in the abbreviated phrase memory may not exceed 1,000 characters. The abbreviated phrase memory can be saved on diskette and, of course, retrieved from the diskette. You can create as many abbreviated phrase files as you want, but you may have only one abbreviated phrase file on a diskette. Understanding the Abbreviated Phrase Memory Your word processor stores the abbreviated phrase memory for as long as the unit remains on. If you have created phrases and would like to use these phrases in other files you will be creating later on, you need to SAVE this phrase memory onto a diskette. (See Saving the Abbreviated Phrase Memory on page 143.) Later, when you want to use the phrases that are stored on a diskette, you can LOAD the file into the memory of the unit. (See Loading an Abbreviated Phrase File on page 143.) NOTES; • Each diskette can hold only one abbreviated phrase file. Ifyou save an abbreviatedphrase memory onto a diskette that already contains an abbreviatedphrase file, that file will be overwritten by the new abbreviated phrase file. • The memory of the wordprocessor can hold only one abbreviatedphrase memory. If you create an abbreviatedphrase memory, and then load an abbreviated phrase file from a diskette, the abbreviated phrase memory will be overwritten by the loaded file. 140 Grammar Check

For

the
phrase
"United

together
with
the
name
"USA."
Once
this
has
been
done,
all

The

and,
of

You

Understanding
the
Abbreviated

Memory
Your

processor
stores
the
abbreviated
phrase
memory
for
as
long
as
the
unit
remains
on.
If
you
have
created
phrases
and
would
like
to
use
these
phrases
in
other
files
you
will
be
creating
later
on,
you
need
to
SAVE
this
phrase
memory
onto
a
diskette.
(See
Saving

on
page
143.)
Later,
when
you
want
to
use
the
phrases
that
are
stored
on
a
diskette,
you
can
LOAD
the
file
into
the
memory
of
the
unit.
(See
Loading
an
Abbreviated
Phrase
File
on
page
143.)
NOTES;
Each
diskette
can
hold
only
one
abbreviated
phrase
file.
If
you
save
an
abbreviated
phrase
memory
onto
a
diskette
that
already
contains
an
abbreviated
phrase
file,
that
file
will
be
overwritten
by
the
new

The
memory
of
the
word
processor
can
hold
only
one
abbreviated

memory.
If
you

and
then
load
an
abbreviated
phrase
file
from
a
diskette,
the
abbreviated
phrase
memory
will
be
overwritten
by
the
loaded
