3-16 Intelligent Manageability Upgrading the ROM Your workstation comes with reprogrammable flash ROM (read only memory). By establishing a Setup password in Security Management, you can protect the ROM from being unintentionally updated or overwritten. This is important to ensure workstation operating integrity. Should you need or want to upgrade your ROM, you may: s Order an upgraded user ROMPaq diskette from Compaq. s Order the Compaq Support Software CD kit. s Download the latest ROMPaq images from the Compaq website (http://www.compaq.com). CAUTION: For maximum ROM protection, be sure to establish a Setup password. The Setup password prevents unauthorized ROM upgrades. Local ROM Upgrade To upgrade the ROM after you receive or download a user ROMPaq diskette, follow these steps: 1. Insert the user ROMPaq diskette in the diskette drive and boot the workstation. 2. Enter the Setup password, if prompted. NOTE: If the Setup password is entered correctly, the ROMPaq utility will take over and run the ROM upgrade. If the Setup password is incorrectly entered, the procedure will terminate and no changes will be made to the ROM. 3. When the utility finishes upgrading the ROM, remove the diskette from the diskette drive and restart your workstation. IMPORTANT: Do not turn off the power to your workstation until the ROMPaq utility has completed the upgrade process.
