The host software may need to keep track of the following information and the associated bar code: • date of format or initialization • cartridge owner (such as group or department) • storage purpose (such as backup, old version of operating system) If the host software does not keep track of this information, create a method of doing so. Slide the label into the slot on the face of the cartridge as illustrated in Figure 3-1. If bar code labels are not used and the Barcode On/Off configuration is set to On, the Inventory Check test performance can be significantly impacted. This test runs when the library is powered on and whenever the bulk load access door is used. See Appendix A for information about ordering additional bar code labels. Proper Label Position 3-4

Labeling Tape Cartridges
Make it a practice to use bar code labels on the tape cartridges. The host
software may need to keep track of the following information and the
associated bar code:
date of format or initialization
cartridge owner (such as group or department)
storage purpose (such as backup, old version of operating system)
If the host software does not keep track of this information, create a method
of doing so.
Slide the label into the slot on the face of the cartridge as illustrated in Figure
3-1.
NOTE
If bar code labels are not used and the Barcode On/Off configuration is set to
On, the Inventory Check test performance can be significantly impacted. This
test runs when the library is powered on and whenever the bulk load access
door is used.
See Appendix A for information about ordering additional bar code labels.
