Library Operation Troubleshooting Troubleshooting There are two ways to get information and run tests when errors occur in library operation. Operating system-based support tools allow use of a consistent user interface that spans product lines, as well as remote access. Library firmware-based diagnostics require use of the library's control panel and display window. Operating System-based Support Tools Several different types of operating system-based support tools exist. Not all are supported on all devices. The following table provides a brief description of the types of tools. Table 4-11 Support Tool Characteristics Tool Type Information tools Verifiers Exercisers Diagnostics Expert tools Firmware update tools Description Self-maintainer Supported for license required Drives Robotics Provides quick access to the most useful information about a device. Quickly verifies that a particular device is properly connected and functional. Stresses the hardware and helps reproduce intermittent problems. Tests a device and isolate a failure down to the most suspect FRU. Assists HP service representatives in low-level troubleshooting. Update the firmware. 4-42
