DSC OPERATION 6 ■ Sending DSC calls (Distress) A Distress call should be sent when, in the opinion of the captain, the vessel or a person is in distress and requires immediate assistance. NEVER MAKE A DISTRESS CALL IF YOUR VESSEL OR A PERSON IS NOT IN AN EMERGENCY. A DISTRESS CALL SHOULD BE MADE ONLY WHEN IMMEDIATE HELP IS NEEDED. D Simple call 1. Confirm that no Distress call is being received. 5. Push Close Call RCVD Window . 6 2. While lifting the key cover, hold down [DISTRESS] for 3 seconds until you hear 3 short countdown beeps and 1 long beep sound. • The backlight blinks.  All Emergency Frequencies are automatically selected to send a Distress call. 3. After sending, wait for an Acknowledgment call. 6. Hold down [PTT], and then explain your situation. 7. After you have finished your explanation, push Standby Mode , and then OK to return to the Main screen. TIP: A default Distress alert contains: • Nature of distress: Undesignated distress • Position information: The latest GPS or manually input position held for 23.5 hours or until you turn OFF the transceiver. • "Waiting for ACK" is displayed. • The Distress call is automatically sent every 3.5 to 4.5 minutes until an Acknowledgment is received, or a Distress Cancel call is sent. 4. When you receive an Acknowledgment, an alarm sounds. Push Alarm Off to turn OFF the alarm. 24

Sending DSC calls (Distress)
A Distress call should be sent when, in the opinion of
the captain, the vessel or a person is in distress and
requires immediate assistance.
NEVER MAKE A DISTRESS CALL IF YOUR
VESSEL OR A PERSON IS NOT IN AN
EMERGENCY. A DISTRESS CALL SHOULD
BE MADE ONLY WHEN IMMEDIATE HELP IS
NEEDED.

Simple call
1.
Confirm that no Distress call is being received.
2.
While lifting the key cover, hold down [DISTRESS]
for 3 seconds until you hear 3 short countdown
beeps and 1 long beep sound.
The backlight blinks.
All Emergency Frequencies are automatically
selected to send a Distress call.
3.
After sending, wait for an Acknowledgment call.
“Waiting for ACK” is displayed.
The Distress call is automatically sent every 3.5 to
4.5 minutes until an Acknowledgment is received, or
a Distress Cancel call is sent.

When you receive an Acknowledgment, an alarm
sounds. Push
Alarm Off
to turn OFF the alarm.

Close Call RCVD Window
.
6.
Hold down [PTT], and then explain your situation.
7.
After you have finished your explanation, push
Standby Mode
, and then
OK
to return
to the Main screen.
TIP:
A default Distress alert contains:
Nature of distress: Undesignated distress
Position information: The latest GPS or manually
input position held for 23.5 hours or until you turn
OFF the transceiver.
