Vehicle Care 10-9 Cabin Heating Coolant System Cabin heating uses a separate coolant system. When cabin heating is requested, the heater and heater coolant pump are turned on to circulate warm coolant through the heater core. The heater coolant reservoir is in the underhood compartment. See Underhood Compartment Overview on page 10-6. Washer Fluid What to Use When windshield washer fluid is needed, be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions before use. If operating the vehicle in an area where the temperature may fall below freezing, use a fluid that has sufficient protection against freezing. What to Use The heater coolant reservoir in the vehicle is filled with a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL coolant and deionized water. If using this mixture, nothing else needs to be added. The coolant needs to be replaced at the appropriate interval. See Maintenance Schedule on page 11-2. Adding Washer Fluid 1. TPIM, APM, and Charger Module Coolant Reservoir 2. Heater Coolant Reservoir Check to see if coolant is visible in the heater coolant reservoir. If coolant is visible but the coolant level is below the cold fill line, there could be a leak in the system. The heater coolant should only be serviced by a qualified technician. Open the cap with the washer symbol on it. Add washer fluid until the tank is full. See Underhood Compartment Overview on page 10-6 for reservoir location. Checking Coolant The vehicle must be on a level surface when checking the coolant level.
