Storage Manager You must configure remote communication before it can be used. For both workstations and servers, this is done by editing the Storage Manager configuration file (dptmgr.ini). There may be additional server configuration steps, depending on your operating system. You must have physical connections between the servers and client workstations. Note: Under Windows 95/98/Me, the server must be started manually by selecting the Adaptec Communication Server icon. This version of the communication server runs in a DOS window. Editing the Configuration File Both the workstation and server communication engines use the Storage Manager configuration file (dptmgr.ini). This file is contained in the directory in which you installed Storage Manager. The OPTIONS section of the file controls the behavior of the communication server. To control the display of messages from the server, change the Verbose parameter, Verbose=x, where x is: 0 No messages 1 Default-Basic messages, such as errors, connects, and disconnects 2 More messages, including Option 1 messages with socket numbers and TCP/IP addresses 3 All messages, including Option 2 messages and message tracing The MODULES section of the file tells the communication server which protocol setting you want to use for communication.
