Backplane signal connector Removing the drive backplane Prerequisites CAUTION: To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, you must remove the drives from the system before removing the backplane. CAUTION: Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before removal so that you can replace them in the same drive slots. 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions. 2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system. 3. Remove the drives. 4. Disconnect the following cables from the backplane: a. Backplane signal cable b. Backplane power cable c. PERC cable NOTE: Observe the routing of the cable as you remove it from the system. Steps 1. Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the chassis. 2. Lift the drive backplane out of the system. NOTE: To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure that you move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips before removing the backplane. Installing and removing system components 81

Removing the drive backplane
Prerequisites
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, you must remove the drives from the system before
removing the backplane.
CAUTION:
Note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before removal so that you can replace them in the
same drive slots.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in

Follow the procedure listed in

3.
Remove the drives
.
4.
Disconnect the following cables from the backplane:
a.
Backplane signal cable
b.
Backplane power cable
c.
PERC cable
NOTE:
Observe the routing of the cable as you remove it from the system.
Steps
1.
Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the chassis.
2.
Lift the drive backplane out of the system.
NOTE:
To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure that you move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips
before removing the backplane.
