64 Keyboard 5. Press these keys to perform other actions: Menu key. Instead of pressing the the MENU button, press this key to open the available menu options for the current screen. / Search key. Instead of pressing the the SEARCH button, press this key to open the search box and type what you want to search. Press the Enter key to begin the search. Quick keys. These keys let you quickly open apps and other items such as bookmarks. See "Using the Quick keys" for more information. Using the quick keys The slideout keyboard comes with quicks keys which you can assign to quickly open an app or an item when pressed. 1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and tap Settings > Keyboard shortcuts. 2. Tap Shortcut key #1 to assign the first quick key ( to assign the second quick key ( ). ), or tap Shortcut key #2 3. Tap Apps or Shortcuts, and then tap the app or shortcut that you want to assign to the selected quick key. If you are assigning a shortcut to an item on your phone, follow the screen instructions to proceed. 4. Press BACK, and then open the slideout keyboard. 5. Press the quick key you've assigned. The app or item opens. Using the onscreen keyboard When you start an app or select a field that requires text or numbers, and the slideout keyboard is closed, the onscreen keyboard becomes available. After entering your text, you can tap or press BACK to close the onscreen keyboard. Entering text Use the following keys while entering text using the onscreen keyboard: Press and hold keys with gray characters at the top to enter numbers, symbols, or accented letters. The gray character displayed on the key is the character that will be inserted when you press and hold that key. Some keys have multiple characters or accents associated with them. Shift key. Tap to enter an uppercase letter. Tap twice to turn on caps lock. Tap to switch to the numeric and symbol keyboard. Enter key. Tap to create a new line. Backspace key. Tap to delete the previous character.
