4 Business Communications Options How Your Modem Works How Your Modem Works In data mode your Modem takes advantage of the typical network configuration found when an analog subscriber connects to a digitally connected server. Because it bypasses the analog-to-digital conversion in the downstream path, the modem can use nearly all of the available 64 kbps network bandwidth. Data sent by the modem (which is typically less speed sensitive) travels at the standard V.34 rate. Your Modem is 56 kbps capable. However, current regulations limit download speeds to 53 kbps. Modem Features As well as combining computer and telephone technologies, your communications option has the following features: • High speed Internet access at up to 56 kbps. • High speed data transfer at up to 33,6 kbps. • High speed fax send and receive rates of up to 14,4 kbps. • Voice capability (by using a sound card and software enabled for voice modem support). 46
