5 Using Sound on Your PC How to Use the Headset How to Use the Headset For recording and listening to messages from the telephone answering machine, a headset must be used. This headset includes both microphone and speaker, and is connected directly to the sound card, thus providing you also with handsfree communication and multimedia functions. How to Connect the Headset This section describes how you connect the headset in order to enjoy hands-free communication and multimedia functions. The headset has been designed to reduce background noise that interferes with mic pick-up. The headset also includes adjustable headband and microphone arm. On the headset there are two color-coded connectors that are connected to the sound card: a red connector for the microphone and a black connector for the speaker. • Plug the microphone connector (this is identified by the symbol ) into the MIC socket on the sound card. • Plug the speaker connector (this is identified by the symbol ) into the LINE OUT socket on the sound card. The following illustration shows how to connect the headset to the sound card. Adjust the microphone arm position to obtain the best sound quality. 64
