1 Overview This chapter provides a brief overview of the MSA1510i. • Product overview • iSCSI overview Product overview • MSA1510i product features • MSA1510i front features • MSA1510i rear features • Shipping contents MSA1510i product features The MSA1510i is a flexible, scalable iSCSI IP SAN solution. • Employs iSCSI technology, using TCP for moving data between application end points, and leverages Ethernet IP infrastructure, familiar to most users worldwide. iSCSI delivers the advantages of a Storage Area Network (SAN) coupled with the low cost of Ethernet infrastructure, and the configuration, and management of a standard IP network. • Works with a variety of industry-standard Gigabit Ethernet Network Interface Cards (GigE NICs). Both standard NICs and models with TCP/IP Offload Engines (TOE) processing are supported. • Is a modular 2U rack-mount array controller shelf with the ability to mix Serial ATA (SATA) and SCSI disk enclosures behind the same MSA1510i unit. • For businesses that need enterprise class SCSI reliability and performance, the MSA1510i can attach up to four MSA30 SCSI enclosures. • For businesses needing a less expensive storage solution to store data that does not require a high degree of I/O performance and/or is viewed as non-mission critical to business operations, the MSA1510i can attach up to eight MSA20 SATA enclosures. • Delivers highly available access to the storage, preventing downtime in the event of hard drive, system component, or path failures. Redundant power supplies and fans are standard, and an optional additional controller and I/O module can be added to ensure uninterrupted access to the storage. In addition, when configuring the Logical Units (LUNs), a variety of fault-tolerant RAID levels are supported, including RAID 6 with Advanced Data Guarding (ADG). • Uses hot pluggable components for simple, fast installation and maintenance. Hard drives, power supplies, fans, controllers, and hard drive storage enclosures are hot pluggable. • Includes integrated configuration and management utilities. • The HP Storage Management Utility (SMU) offers a graphical user interface design for configuring, managing, and monitoring the array controller and its storage. The SMU is accessed through a supported Web browser. An easy-to-use installation wizard is included. • The MSA Command Line Interface (MSA-CLI) offers a command level method of configuring, managing, and monitoring the array controller and its storage. The MSA-CLI is accessed through a host computer connected to the customized RJ-45Z serial port on the front of the MSA controller. Alternatively, the CLI can be accessed remotely via Telnet or SSH. By default, Telnet service is disabled. • MSA1510i firmware 2.0 and later is designed to work with the native multipath drivers available with each operating system. For more information, see the MSA1510i configuration notes for your operating system. 1510i Modular Smart Array installation and user guide 13
