Some boards may have preferred locations and special installation instructions detailed in their manuals. 4 Unscrew the slot cover's retaining screw and remove the slot cover. Keep the screw, you will need it later. Store the slot cover in a safe place. 5 Hold the board by its "top" edge, and slide it into the board guide of the chosen slot. If you need to, loosen the retaining screws on the adjacent slots. 6 Align the board's connector with the slot's socket and firmly press the board into the socket. Do not bend the board. Ensure the board's connector engages completely with the socket and does not touch components on other boards. 7 Secure the board by replacing the retaining screw.
